Appointed as trustee to Diyarbakir Metropolitan Municipality following arrests of Co-Mayors Gultan Kisanak and Firat Anli, Cumali Atilla has come to the building.
The police evacuated the building before Atilla's arrival. Municipality assembly members, who had started a sit-in protest, were taken out of the building.
The members chanted slogans "Mayor Gultan is our pride", "Mayor Fırat is our pride", "Crackdowns cannot suppress us".
Stating that the building was evacuated at around 7 a.m., Feleknez Uca said that the police will search the building, according to Fırat News Agency. Noting that the police came in large numbers, Uca added that no one is allowed inside of the building and the staff don't know whether they will start to work.
Police detained two Municipality Assembly members
Speaking to bianet, Chair of Culture and Art Department Cevahir Sadak has said police broke the doors, which again they had broken last week, and police detained two Municipality Assembly members at 7:30 a.m.
"I am in Culture Art Congress center right now. Our friends in the building said that the police stormed in at around 7:30 a.m. and detained two women Municipality Assembly members.
"A group of 25 people consisting of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MP Ziya Pir, vice secretary generals, department heads, assembly members and municipality workers were on watch inside. Police asked them to come out and our friends told them they will come out on the condition of the detained assembly members be released".
Sadak concluded his remarks that some of the workers are waiting in front of the building without knowing what to do. (ÇT/TK)
