Police have raided tent where the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) were holding “No to coup, democracy now” watch in the wake of the coup attempt in front of the municipality building in Turkey’s southeastern province of Hakkari.
HDP Hakkari MP Nihat Akdoğan, Co-Mayor Fatma Yıldız, HDP, DBP and some former NGO representatives participated in the watch, according to Yüksekovahaber news site.
Police in the raid seized banners reading “I look out for peace, resist against coup”, “I look out for my labor, resist against coup”, “No to isolation, solution is in İmralı*”.
After the examination of the banners, they were returned.
HDP’s Akdoğan spoke as follows following the raid:
“Parliament was bombed by the jets purchased with citizens’ taxes for the first time in Turkey’s history. While immunity has been brought on soldiers and rangers, it was HDP’s politics that has stood firm regarding this.
“We say ‘no to coups, democracy now’. Raiding here despite that has revealed what it actually serves”. (ÇT/TK)
