The Ministry of Justice has dispatched the files sent from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on the MPs to 11th Ankara Chief Prosecution.
According to the state-run Anadolu Agency, the files are on Republican People’s Party (CHP) Leader, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair, Selahattin Demirtaş, and CHP Ankara MP Levent Gök.
There are charges such as “Insulting the President”, “Explicitly insulting Turkish nation, State of Republic of Turkey, TBMM, and state’ legal organs” in the files.
The legislative proposal concerning Constitutional amendment as to lifting parliamentary immunity of the MPs against whom have cases was voted at the Grand National Assembly (TBMM) General Assembly on May 20.
The MPs against whom have cases can be tried now pursuant to this new regulation.
531 MPs voted, the proposal passed with 376 aye votes, 140 against, five abstaining, seven empty, and three invalid.
There are 138 MPs against whom have cases. Of these MPs, 27 are from the Justice and Development Party (AKP), 51 from the CHP, 50 from the HDP, and nine from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). (HK/TK)
