European Union (EU) President of Delegation of Turkey, Ambassador Hansjörg Haber has reportedly resigned without any justification.
Reuters has pronounced the resignation.
A statement is yet to be made as to why and when Haber resigned.
"Starting like a Turk, finishing like a German"
Haber in his statement to a group of journalists as to the visa waiver on May 13, expressing that the 72 criteria which the EU expects Turkey to meet are known as of 2013, had said “We have a saying. ‘Starting like a Turk, finishing like a German’. In this case, the opposite happened”.
Then EU Minister Volkan Bozkır had reacted against Haber’s statement and said, “An ambassador has no right to insult the country in which he is present and its people, and criticize its President. This is the first rule of diplomacy. Now I expect the EU Ambassador bragging about being German to issue a statement on this matter or do what he is ‘supposed to do’”.
Haber was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Hansjörg Haber was serving in Ankara since October 1, 2015.
Who is Haber?
Born in 1953, Hansjörg Haber studied economics at the Munich University.
He served as Ambassador in Beirut (2007-2008) and Cairo (2014-2015).
After the Georgia-Russia war, he served as President of European Union civilian monitoring mission between 2008-2011.
Later, he served as “Civilian Operation Chief” at the Foreign Action Service of the EU.
