PM Davutoğlu: Denaturalization is not Possible

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu on his return from Finland visit has spoken on “denaturalization” and “resolution process”.

Legists Turgut Kazan and Yücel Sayman in their statement to bianet had stated that deprivation of citizenship has no legal basis, and also contradicts international conventions.

Davutoğlu spoke as follows according to Hürriyet daily’s report:

“It is clear in the current legislation that who will be deprived of citizenship. Espionage against the state, serving unauthorized in the military in another country, etc.

“According to our legislation, it is not possible to denaturalize someone because of his/her ties with terror.

“In fact, if someone is committing a suicide act disregarding life of a citizen, it means the moral bond of that person is already severed. Such a topic hasn’t been added to the agenda yet.

“If Mr. President is of the opinion that this is necessary, it will bring benefit to fight against terror, then legal aspects will be researched”.

Resolution process

Davutoğlu responded to questions as to the resolution process as follows:

“It is not possible to see any developments as to this matter without a total disarmament. This is a pre-requisite.

“If this is realized and it ceases to be a threat against Turkey, their existence in Iraq and Syria should cease to become a threat against Turkey.

“Turkey [has to be on a line which] doesn’t threaten security of regional Kurdish government in Northern Iraq”. (AS/TK)
