The mass getting on the streets for Newroz celebrations have been exposed to police intervention in many provinces.
İstanbul
A women reacting against the Newroz prohibitions in Şirinevler district has been taken into custody and taken to the police department to give testimony. Later Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Province Administrator Hüseyin Duran has also been taken into custody.
Police has attacked the mass which wanted to head to the Newroz celebrations in Bakırköy Public Bazaar including HDP MPs Filiz Kerestecioğlu and Pervin Buldan.
Some have been taken into custody during interventions with plastic bullets and pepper pepper gas.
Urfa
Police has also intervened the mass which gathered to march in Siverek district of Turkey’s southeastern province Urfa. 15 have been taken into custody.
Another group including HDP Urfa MP Osman Baydemir which gathered in Şirinkuyu of the same district as of the morning hours have been blocked with armoured police vehicles.
Baydemir in his statement to the crowd has criticized the celebration ban. Police has attacked the group wanting to march following the statement with pressured water. 15 persons have been taken into custody.
Adana
The police have also intervened with pepper gas and pressurized water from anti-riot vehicles to disperse the other group who gathered in Dağlıoğlu neighbourhood of Turkey’s southern province Adana.
Before the police intervention the mass which HDP MP Meral Danış Bektaş was also in, has manage to celebrate for a while dancing the halay.
İzmir
In the operations carried out in eight districts by teams of İzmir Provincial Security Directorate Anti-Terror Department upon order of İzmir Chief Prosecution Terror and Organized Crimes Bureau, searches have been conducted in 32 addresses including three foundations and one HDP district representative office.
In the searches carried out approximately by 500 police officers, 19 persons have been taken into custody including HDP Buca District Chair C.A, Konak Chair M.K and other district administrators. (AS/DG)
