President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a statement yesterday (March 14) after the bomb attack that claimed 37 lives in Kızılay downtown of Turkey’s capital city of Ankara.
Erdoğan saying the attackers have achieved their objective with the help of some NGO representatives, journalists and MPs noted that definitions of “terror” and “terrorists” should be changed
Here are some headlines from Erdoğan’s speech:
“This act is different than others”
“While the previous attacks took place at public places, we see that they all have special targets.
“We can assess all attacks in Suruç, Ankara Train Station, Sultanahmet, and again on Merasim street in Ankara as directed towards certain targets.
“However, the last attack takes place in an area which everyone in the city has the chance to pass through, on a day like Sunday when diversity of people hits the top, at the evening hours when it is most crowded.
“This act by being attack against the whole society is an incident that reveals the true face of the terror organization”.
“Both MP and journalist could be terrorists”
“There is no difference between the terrorist holding gun, and those using their titles and pencils to support it.
“Being an MP, a journalist, an NGO administrator doesn’t in fact change the fact that that person is a terrorist.
“It might be the terrorist who pull the trigger but it those who help the terrorist achieve his/her objective”.
“Definition of terror and terrorist should be redefined”
“I believe definition of terror and terrorist should be redefined as soon as possible and be included in our Criminal Law.
“This matter is no more a matter of freedom of expression, freedom of information, or freedom of organizing”. (EKN/TK)
