General election date has been determined following the US and Russia coming to an agreement on truce yesterday.
The general elections will be held on March 13 in all the states across the country, Syrian official news agency, Syrian Arab News Agency has reported.
The last parliamentary election was held in May 2012 in Syria. It was the first time parties other than Baas Party were allowed to enter the election.
Truce in Syria will start as of February 27 night within the frame of agreement reached by the US and Russia.
Attacks against ISIS and Al Nusra to persist
According to report of Sputnik News, Russian President Vladimir Putin has remarked that the truce will be a real step towards stopping massacre in the country.
Putin declaring that they discussed truce in Syria and have come to an agreement with US President Barack Obama, stated that Moscow and Washington are prepared to launch an effective mechanism to monitor the truce.
Putin saying all parties must confirm they will abide by the agreement till February 26 afternoon, explained that groups deemed as terrorist organizations by the UN Security Council such as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Al Nusra among others are excluded from this and that attacks against these groups will persist.
Putin has made a call for Middle Eastern countries to support Washington-Moscow agreement and said, “Opponents in Syria must end their military activities”. (EKN/TK)
