Curfew has been declared in Şırnak’s İdil district and Dirsekli village as of 11 p.m. today (January 16).
The announcement made on the official website of the Governorship is as follows:
“On basis of Article 11/C of Provincial Administration Law No 5442, curfew has been declared as of 16.02.2016 Tuesday, 11. p.m until further notice in İdil district and Dirsekli village of our province in order to capture members of the separatist terrorist organization, removing barricades and holes trapped with explosives as well as to provide security of live and property of our people”.

A notice has been sent to the teachers on duty in İdil district of Şırnak summoning them to go to İstanbul as of February 8.
Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu asked Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu on February 9, whether it had already been planned to declare the curfew upon summoning the teachers on duty in İdil district to attend the in-service-training seminar out of the district
“The expected curfew” has been declared today after all.

İdil district of Şırnak province is a neighbour of Cizre, Midyat and Nusaybin districts and has land borders with Syria and the Iraq. It is located at a distance of 60 km to Mardin province and 24 km to Syrian border gate. The district has an area of 1,224 square km and is the district which has the greatest number of villages in Turkey. It has a population of 73,348 people. 46,865 of whom are from the country-side and the other 26,453 from the center. It is 14 km away from Şırnak Airport constructed in 2013. Agriculture Faculty of Şırnak University and İdil Vocational High school are also situated in the district. İdil district is the second place resided by Christians in Anatolia following Hatay. Church of Virgin Mary is located in the district. The demographic structure of the district has changed upon Muslim families began to settle in the district center after 1970s which had earlier been inhabited by the Assyrian population mainly.
