Minister of Foreign Affair, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said, “The US has to make a decision, does it choose us or terror organizations as partner?” upon US Department of State Spokesperson, John Kirby telling they don’t deem PYD (Democratic Union Party) as a terror group.
Çavuşoğlu answered questions in the joint press meeting held with his counterpart Peter Szijjarto in Hungary’s capital city of Budapest where Çavuşoğlu came to hold official talks.
“They are both terror organizations”
Minister Çavuşoğlu has spoken as follows upon questions related to US not considering PYD a terror group:
“Now DAEŞ (ISIS-Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) is evil because it is radical but PYD and PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) are good because they are Marxist-Leninist. How can there be such a mentality? They are both terror organizations. You can’t say one is better. Some leftist parties are trying to remove PKK from the list of terror organizations for sharing the same ideology with it.
“Can there be such fighting against terrorism? PYD has no harm to me now, thus it is good, we can cooperate with it. A lot of countries that support terror organization have been hit by those organizations”.
“Shall we call it naiveness”
“The US has to make a decision; does it choose or terror organizations as partner. We have documented clearly to Americans, our friends, [Joe] Biden how PKK and PYD are closely related. I explained this to [John] Kerry numerous times. We have shown with pictures and gave names of how PKK members take place in PYD.
“Now you include a terror organization in the terror list, but don’t see another one that is together with it and within a different structure as a terror organization. Shall we call it naiveness to say the least, or what else we shall say but this is unacceptable. Therefore, our friends and allies must make a decision. Are we the partner countries or terror organizations in Syria and fight against DAEŞ?” (NV/TK)
