Erdoğan’s Prerequisite to Meet Zana: Take Parliamentary Oath

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has provided that Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Ağrı MP Leyla Zana should first take the parliamentary oath to actualize the planned meeting.

“Let me tell this first, it is of prime importance that she takes the parliamentary oath first. Before that, a reception is out of the reception”.

“She shall not come at all”

In his statement held after leaving the Friday prayer, Erdoğan has noted that the consultant of Leyla Zana has called him and pointed out to their demands regarding Öcalan.

“Her consultant who called my special secretary has reportedly quoted that Zana had certain provisions concerning the head of the terrorists. If this is the case, she shall not come at all. In no place on earth such conditions are provided for such head of the terrorists”.

What had happened?

Leyla Zana had put the expression “Bi Hevîya Aşîtî Kî Bi Rûmet Û Mayînde (With a hope of honourable and lasting peace)” before her parliamentary oath and had replaced the expression “Turkish Nation” with the “Nation of Turkey”.

Zana’s oath had therefore not been accepted and she had not complied with the request of Deniz Baykal; Spokesperson of the Temporary Parliament; to repeat the oath.

Following this, Zana had remarked: “Certains things have to change, I will definitely not repeat my oath”. (YY/DG)
