Turkey withdraws from the Bashiqa camp in Iraq to which it had sent troops on December 5. In the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it has been announced that a “miscommunication with the Iraqi Government” had occurred regarding the deployment of the troops.

The statement included following remarks:
“Turkey, as a determined member of the coalition against DAEŞ (the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) is ready to continue its collaboration with Iraq in order to provide closer cooperation regarding joint efforts in defeating and eliminating the terrorist organization. Turkey confirms its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq and concedes the miscommunication experienced with the Iraqi Government regarding the defence forces recently deployed to the region in order to support the the training activities conducted to support Iraqi forces battling against DAEŞ in Northern Iraq.
“Taking the concerns of the Iraqi party into consideration and in a sort of way in compliance with the requirements of the fight against DAEŞ, Turkey is going to continue the transition process of the defence forces as the source of the current miscommunication out of Mosul province
“Continuing to coordinate its military contributions to the battle against DAEŞ with the Iraqi Government, Turkey hereby reconfirms its determination on deepening its collaboration with the ‘Global Coalition Against DAEŞ’”.
Turkey sending troops to Bashiqa on December 5, had been criticized by the Iraqi Government as well as Russia and the U.S. Turkey had justified the military deployment as serving the purpose of constituting a “training camp against ISIS”. (EA/DG)
