Former President of Turkey: Without Panic, With Common Sense
11th President Abdullah Gül talked about the general elections results and the government to be formed. Gül passed his opinion to Hürriyet Daily News and added he didn’t see Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputies since the election results were announced.
Abdullah Gül said:
“I called my friends from AKP on election day before the results were announced in case they were busy. The election results have been announced. We said ‘Nation’s willpower shall appear’ and it appeared so. Everyone should respect the nation’s will. We understand from the statements they respect already…”
“We should assess the election results without panic but with common sense. After all, we live in a multiparty system. This happens all the time. It happened in the past, too. Everybody has worked so hard and is so tired.”
“Parties should try to form a government together. Elections are not that easy. Ruling a country is similar to a mother-child relationship. Like the mother of the country, should rule the state maturely.” (AS/BD)
