Turkish Armed Forces in its statement made on its website has announced that they have seized power. Minister of Defence Işık has noted that the declaration is a pirate statement. State-run Anadolu Agency has reported that Chief of General Staff has been taken hostage.
Upon the military mobilization in İstanbul and Ankara, Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) has announced that they have seized power. Minister of Defence Fikri Işık has noted that the declaration is a pirate statement.
Stating that they have seized power, TSK in its declaration has noted:
"Turkish Military Forces has seized complete control of the country in order to re-establish and quarantee the constitutional order, democracy, human rights and liberties; to make the superiority of law rule again in the country and to re-establish the impaired public order.
“All our international agreements and commitments are still in force. We wish that our good relationship with all countries continue”. (HK/YY/DG)
