Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Central Executive Council has released support message for people who have been attacked by security forces while keeping watch against copper mine planned to be built in Artvin.
HDP saying, “This means to hand over the region to companies’ ambition. It means that Artvin will be wiped out with its natural assets, people, history, and culture” has called on the government to apply legal decisions.

Security forces attacked with pepper gas on people today /February 17) who were attacked by security forces yesterday as well while keeping watch against copper mine planned to be built.
Security forces have several times attacked on the people keeping watch over 20 years.
“Government sides with the company against people. Nature is intended to be made available for looting for companies. If ‘presidential’ system that [President Recep Tayyip] Erdoğan de facto enforces were in effect, companies will be able to seize people’s living spaces with a signature of the president.
“People will have their word on their own living spaces in the local democracy system we propose. In this system, no one can crush people’s will and build thermic power plants, nuclear power plants, gold mines, etc.
“We are standing by people of Artvin resisting against this plan and support their struggle. We call on [Presidential] Palace-AKP government to give up their plans of destroying Artvin and apply decisions legally made”. (BK/TK)
