During Gezi Park protests the police officer, Fatih Zengin who sprayed academician Ceyda Sungur aka woman in red at close range had been sentenced to 20 months in prison. The court suspended the punishment and the police was convicted to plant 600 trees.
Fatih Zengin will be responsible for the young trees for six months but the place for the trees to be planted on isn’t decided yet by the court.
On May 28, 2013 the police attacked people who wanted to defense Gezi Park and pepper sprayed Ceyda Sungur at close range. Iconic woman in red's photo was scattered to the four winds and Sungur became an icon of Gezi Park Protests.
According to the news of Radikal.com.tr, police officer who pepper sprayed Sungur was found guilty of ‘injuring’ and ‘malpractice’ and sentenced to 20 months in prison but the punishment was suspended and the police had to plant 600 trees. (NV/BD)
