The court has banned imprisoned Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan and three other convicts held in İmralı Type F High-Security Prison from meeting their attorneys for six months.
In addition to Abdullah Öcalan, the following prisoners will not be allowed to meet their attorneys: Ömer Hayri Konar, Veysi Aktaş, Hamili Yıldırım.
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), the ban in question was imposed by the Bursa 2nd Judgeship of Execution on September 23, 2020 upon the request of the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Last meeting was on August 7, 2019
Since July 27, 2011, the attorneys of Abdullah Öcalan have been prevented from visiting him in İmralı Prison for various reasons.
After eight years, the attorneys could meet him for the first time on May 2, 2019. On May 16, 2019, Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül said, "The decisions pertaining to the ban on meetings have been removed and the opportunity of meeting has been provided."
Afterwards, the attorneys could meet Öcalan in İmralı islan on May 22, June 12, June 18 and August 7, 2019.
Since the last meeting, his attorneys have made 107 applications to meet him; however, they have been neither approved nor rejected.
