Sub-Governor of Çatak Municipality in Van Hacı Asım Akgül, who was appointed as trustee to the municipality, changed the name of the park which was named after Diyarbakır Bar President Tahir Elçi who was murdered on November 28, 2015.
The Çatak Municipality changed the name to “Şehit (Martyr) GK Ali Ogün Park”.
dihaber reported that the signboard reading “Westaniya Parezer Tahir Elçi” in Kurdish was replaced with a new signboard.
Ali Ogün was a village guard killed in 2016.
The sub-Governor Akgül had the safety rails around the Çatak brook painted red and white (the colors of Turkish flag), which was painted in rainbow colors by the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) management.
Trustees were appointed to 85 municipalities including 10 cities, 64 districts and 11 neighborhoods from the DBP.
Tahir Elçi investigation
Diyarbakır Bar President, human rights defender attorney Tahir Elçi was shot to death during his statement for the press he held on November 28, 2015 about the Four-Legged Minaret being damaged.
The investigation continues, no one has been sued.
After the place of duty of the prosecutor of the investigation was changed in the wake of the July 15 coup attempt, the investigation de facto stopped.
Crime scene investigation was carried out 111 days after the incident. The expert report said that “the person who shot Elçi cannot be identified neither medically nor physically”. (AS/TK)
