An unidentified explosion has taken place in İstanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen Airport, one cleaning worked injured, another one killed in the incident.
According to the report of Hürriyet daily, an unidentified explosion took place at around 2 a.m. during two workers do cleaning at apron section of Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
Canan Çelik Burgucu (33) has been wounded in her hand, and Zehra Yamaç (30) has been wounded in her head in the explosion. The injured have been taken to Marmara University, Pendik Training and Research Hospital via ambulance where Yamaç has lost her life.
A large number of police, ambulances and fire brigade have been referred to the airport subsequent to the explosion.
Police have examined all suspected vehicles and people around the airport in case of an external attack on the airport. Police helicopter hovered the scene for a long time.
Governor: We are investigating
İstanbul Governor, Vasip Şahin, has stated that an unidentified explosion took place in Sabiha Gökçen Airport at 2.05 a.m.
Şahin stating two cleaning workers wounded in the explosion have been right away taken to hospital said, “Investigation is being carried out as to the explosion”.
Statement from airport administration and Pegasus
İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport administration and Pegasus Airline have released written statements as to the explosion.
The statements expressed that an unidentified explosion took place at 2 a.m. on December 23, 2015 at apron section of İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport. The authorities’ investigation about the explosion is continuing. Landing and departures are performed without any problems and flight operations continue trouble-free.
