The Regulation on Work Permit for International Protection Applicants and Beneficiaries of International Protection has been issued on the Official Gazette today. (April 26).
The regulation applies to the applicants, conditional refugees and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection in accordance with the Foreigners and International Protection Law No 6458.
According to the new regulation; refugees or beneficiaries of subsidiary protection can work as employers and self-employers after being granted their status. They must attain the work permit before the starting their employment. The ones whose applications are approved will be issued a work permit by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
The Association of Bridging Peoples İstanbul Representative Attorney Gülsüm Kayacan talking to bianet has commented that the new regulation was pleasant and underlined that its implementation needed effort.
Rights and obligations in the regulation
According to the regulation, the applicants and conditional refugees will apply for work permit with identification documents they have acquired from the authorities. The application for work permit can be made six months after making the application for international protection.
The applications will be made on e-devlet (e-state) to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
Applications made by applicants and conditional refugees obliged to reside in a particular province for working in another province will be decided after taking consideration of the Ministry of Interior Affairs.
The by-law also regulates the denial, cancellation and invalidation of work permits.
Karacan has also noted that “there had been another regulation introduced on January 15 but it only applied to Syrians”. (BK/DG)
