HDP Proposes Truth and Facing Commission

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Group Interim Presidents Pervin Buldan and İdris Baluken submitted a proposal to form a “historical truth and facing commission” for the establishment of societal peace and justice.

The proposal statement also underlined on the parliament regarding this task. 

“This step is essential for the development of democratic political culture and resolution of historical issues.”

Structure 

According to the law proposal for the forming of facing commission, the commission will have two member from each political party represented in the parliament as well as two non-affiliated deputies. Every political party will be required to select female members.

In addition to that, the commission will also assign experts from NGOs with an expertise on political history and human rights.

Duties

Among the commission’s duties included researching grave human rights abuses violent acts and their causes and consequences, determining on the applications’s of victims and suspects, and working on legislations in order to prevent the instances from happening again. (YY/BM)
