Nusaybin Mayor Ayşe Gökkan stopped her 9-day hunger strike as authorities announced that they have halted the construction of a security wall on Turkey’s border to Syria.
“The shame wall will not built thanks to the honorable hunger strike of Ayşe Gökkan. Now that she has stopped her hunger strike, we took her to a hospital,” Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Group Interim Chair Pervin Buldan said via twitter.
“The first medical intervention has been made on our Nusaybin mayor Ayşe Gökkan after having stopped her hunger strike,” BDP Batman deputy Ayla Akat tweeted.
Both deputies also shared photos that they took from the hospital.
According to Fırat News Agency (ANF), a series of negotiations between ministers and activists have resulted in the halting of wall construction. (EKN/BM)
