In the wake of military operation launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) into Afrin, five people have lost their lives in the missile attacks launched on Kilis and Reyhanlı.
At least 65 people were wounded by 22 missiles launched since January 21.
January 21
A citizen of Syria lost his or her life in a missile attack in Reyhanlı. Name of the person wasn’t reported in the media or official statements.
In total 47 people were injured by 11 missiles launched on Reyhanlı.
On the same day, four missiles launched on Kilis wounded seven people.
January 22
TEDAŞ worker Şahin Elitaş lost his life, 12 people were wounded in a missile attack launched on Kırıkhan, Hatay.
January 24
Tarık Tabak from Syria and Muzaffer Aydemir from Turkey lost their lives in a missile launched on a mosque in Kilis. Five people were wounded by a missile hitting a home.
January 31
17-year-old Fatma Avlar lost her life by a missile hitting the garden wall of the home in Reyhanlı, Hatay. Another person was injured.
Statements
Agencies and authorities from Turkey announced that the attacks were launched by the “PYD/PKK/YPG/KCK”. According to Mezopotamya Agency citing Hawar News Agency, YPG General Commander Sîpan Hemo said, “Our forces have in no way targeted neither Kilis nor any other city”.
In his statement to Cumhuriyet daily newspaper on January 22, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Party Assembly member and Hatay MP Mevlüt Dudu said, “We received the information that the attack was planned earlier and launched from somewhere in territory of Turkey. So, there is no doubt that the attack was launched by the terrorist organization but it was launched from rural of Reyhanlı, not Syria”. (BK/TK)
