31 different areas in districts of Çukurca, Merkez (Center), Şemdinli and Yüksekova in Hakkari have been declared “Special Security Zone” for 14 days.
The governorship on its official website stated that the zones will be in effect until November 24, 2017. Entering the “Special Security Zones” has been banned due to the Law on Military Forbidden Areas and Security Zones.
The governorship added that the zones were declared due to “Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) actions negatively affecting daily life, and social and economic development in the city”.
“…All sorts of precautions are being taken to maintain security and order with intent to protect our state and nation from all kinds of terrorist threat and attack”, the statement added.
About HakkariThere are 4 towns, 122 villages and 368 hamlets in Hakkari Merkez (Center), Yüksekova, Şemdinli and Çukurca. Population of city center is 239, 455 and of rural area is 97,126, amounting to 336,581. 87.6% of the city is mountainous, 10.3% is plateau, 21.% is lowland.
