Announcing that two non-commissioner officers with whom contact was lost 1.5 months ago during Operation Euphrates Shield in Syria, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) has informed families of the soldiers.
Bodies of Infantry Non-Commissioner Officer Kıvanç Kaşıkçı from Çanakkale province and Non-Commissioner Officer Muhammed Duran Keskin from Adana province were brought to Turkey. When, how and where Kaşıkçı and Keskin were killed hasn't been announced.
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) had announced that it kidnapped two soldiers in Syria's city of Al-Bab, and that the TSK in its statement on November 29, 2016 said that contact was lost with the two soldiers.
Furthermore, ISIS alleged that it killed the two soldiers and released a video on December 22, 2016. Officials from Turkey have yet to make any statement as to this incident.
The number of soldiers who lost their lives during Operation Euphrates Shiled has risen to 49 with the death of the two soldiers. (AS/TK)
