Journalists Outside initiative has made a call for Cumhuriyet trial to be held on March 9, Friday.
The call’s hashtag #Adaletiçin (#ForJustice) has climbed to number four on Twitter’s Turkey agenda.
The hearing is in Silivri on March 9
The trial of 20 defendants including Cumhuriyet executives and workers Ahmet Şık, Akın Atalay, Murat Sabuncu, and social media user Ahmet Kemal Aydoğdu will resume on March 9.
The hearing held at İstanbul 27th Heavy Penal Court has been transferred from Çağlayan to Silivri.
The suspects are expected to be heard in the hearing.
What happened?On October 31, 2016, İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office began investigating Cumhuriyet Foundation executives on charges of "Making publications that justify July 15 coup attempt" and "committing crime for PKK/KCK (Kurdistan Workers' Party/Kurdistan Communities Union) and FETÖ/PDY (Fethullahist Terrorist Organization/Parallel State Organization) as non members". The investigation was initially launched by prosecutor Murat İnam who was at the same time a suspect in the trial of "FETÖ (Fethullahist Terrorist Organization)". Five hearings have been held in the trial so far. * The Journalists Outside: When Ahmet Şık was arrested in Oda TV trial in 2011, a journalists' initiative called "Friends of Ahmet and Nedim (ANGA)" has started to organize demonstrations. The initiative has been named "The Journalists Outside" after Şık and Şener were released a year later. They carry on with their protests and demonstrations for their colleagues in prison due to OdaTV, KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Press, and Cumhuriyet trials.
