Demokratik Modernite editor Haydar Ergül was arrested by İstanbul 5th Criminal Judgeship of Peace on charge of “being a member of an illegal organization” yesterday (January 24). Detained from her home in Ankara on Monday, Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporter Seda Taşkın arrested on the same day.
Demokratik Modernite editor was arrested
MA reported that Demokratik Magazine magazine editor Haydar Ergül, who was brought to İstanbul after he was detained on January 16, was referred to İstanbul Courthose on January 23, and then was sent to İstanbul 5th Criminal Judgeship of Peace for arrest.
In the deposition, Ergül was asked about his articles. Ergül denied the charges.
The judgeship ruled Ergül’s arrest.
MA reporter Seda Taşkın was arrested as well
Detained on December in Muş and released on probation, MA reporter Seda Taşkın was arrested in Ankara again on Tuesday (January 23).
Speaking to bianet, Taşkın’s lawyer Ebru Akkal said that the arrest decision was made by Bitlis Criminal Judgeship of Peace, which heard the case upon prosecutor’s office’s objection to the initial verdict.
Following her deposition, Taşkın was arrested on charge of “being a member of an illegal organization”. (EA/TK)
