Ali Erdin Demirhan, editor of sendika.org news website was taken into custody this morning (April 20).
Police raiding the office of sendika.org this morning at 5.45, took Demirhan into custody on charges of "organizing protests on social media accounts in attempt to make the referendum results look illegitimate", "inciting people to hatred and hostility" as well as "insulting an official in performing her/his duty.
Police have searched the apartment of Demirhan and seized his computer and cell phone.
Demirhan has been taken to Esenler Atışalanı Police Department.
Online since 2001, sendika.org was blocked on July 25, 2015 without any hint given about the content which was the reason for the access block.
Known for its rights based reports, the website continued to report online from the website sendikaorg.1yet continued being blocked.
After 31 access blocks so far, the website is currently online on sendika32.org. (EKN/DG)
