Özgür Gelecek Newspaper editor-in-chief Aslı Ceren Aslan has been arrested in Turkey's southeastern Urfa province.
The daily reported yesterday (February 21) that Aslan was arrested four days after being taken into custody on February 9 in Urfa.
Aslan was in Urfa to follow up the latest developments in Syria and Rojava.
Charges of "border violation" and "illegal organization"
Aslan, arrested for "border violation" and "being a member of an [illegal] organization"has denied the charges and stated that she had been trying to cross the borders while trying to perform her journalistic duties related to keep abreast of the latest developments in the region.
Order to strip naked for examination and beating in detention.
Speaking to bianet, Aslan's attorney Kübra Gündüz said that Aslan had been arrested for being a member of an [illegal] organization although there was no such evidence and noted that Aslan had been beaten in detention and was forced to strip naked for examination in Ceylanpınar Gendarmerie Command and Urfa Anti-Terror Department.
"This arrest is unlawful, this arrest is against the opposing media", Gündüz added.
Aslan has been brought to Urfa Type 2 Prison. (NÖ/EA//DG)
