Following the bomb and gun attacks in İstanbul and İzmir, 948 people have been taken into custody, 248 others have been arrested over their posts on Twitter and Facebook.
According to the report of the state-run Anadolu Agency, those who were sharing the postings which were being monitored were identified by the department against cyber crimes subordinated to the provincial security directorates.
Operations were run on December 11, 2016 and February 6, 2017 regarding the postings shared on social media following the bomb attack on December 10, 2016 in Beşiktaş district of İstanbul killing 46 people including 38 police officers.
700 people were released
248 of the 948 people taken into custody were later placed under arrest.
The other 700 were released by court on probation or released after testifying in the police station.
The charges were "social media postings which supported terrorist organizations and lead to public indignation" and "propagandizing for the terrorist organization".(DG)
