Staff of four TV and seven radio channels closed by Statutory Decrees have come together and established 1 Haber Var (There is 1 Report) Platform
Azadi TV, Özgür Gün TV, Jiyan TV, Van TV, Gün Radyo, Özgür Radyo, Radyo Rengin, Radyo Karacadağ, Radyo Özgür Güneş, Radyo Ses, Radyo Dünya take place on the platform.
The platform aims to inform public with the motto “Even just 1 report” via website, internet TV, internet radio and social media.
The broadcastings will be made in Turkish and Kurdish.
Speaking to bianet, Platform member and Gün TV Director Barış Barıştırır stated that the platform will cover invisible news in an environment in which crackdown and censorship mechanism operates.
What had happened?
12 Statutory Decrees (KHK) have been issued during State of Emergency that was declared on July 20, 2016.
In total 177 media outlets were closed by three of the 12 KHKs.
Journalists Association of Turkey (TGC) and Journalists Union of Turkey (TGS) declared that 2,500 newspaper and media workers were left unemployed due to closures of 121 media organs from Gülen Community and Kurdish circles since the State of Emergency was declared.
177 media organizations were closed, 11 reopened
Five news agencies, 28 television and 34 radio channels, 62 newspapers, 19 magazines and 29 publishing houses were closed by the KHKs, which makes the total number of closed media organizations 177.
11 of the closed ones were reopened by decision of a commission formed by the KHKs. (NV/TK)
