The News Watch organized to act in solidarity with the journalists working in conflict zones has been awarded the Günter Wallraff Critical Journalism Award by Initiative Nachrichtenaufklarung.
The Initiative Nachrichtenaufklarung, an initiative founded in Germany to draw attention to the news that the main-stream media overlooks, will give the award to the News Watch in a ceremony to be held in Köln on June 10.
68 journalists had worked with their colleagues for eight weeks within the scope of the News Watch, and shared the news which wide-spread media neglected with public.
The watchers covering as many as 300 articles by working with their colleagues had tried to bring the destruction as well as the crackdowns on the journalists on the agenda.

The News Watch used the following expression as to the award:
“This award named after journalist Günter Wallraff who is one of the first figures coming to mind with respect to investigative journalism and published his experiences of working at Germany factories under cover of an immigrant worker of Turkey origin into a book, has both excited and filled us, the News Watch coordination team with pride.
“We have wanted to share this with you too.
“This award belongs to our colleagues pursuing truth in danger like in the starting point of the News Watch”.
