Aleppo Today’s correspondent, Muhammed Zahir el Şerkat was shot in the back of his neck in Antep yesterday (April 10).
Şerkat was attacked by some masked men in Dr. Kemal Ahi street in Değirmiçem neighborhood. The journalist wounded in his head and hand has been taken into 25 Aralık State Hospital for treatment.
36-year-old Şerkat had settled in Antep 10 months ago. According to Dicle News Agency’s (DHA) report, Şerkat joining Free Syrian Army (FSA) when the war began, had started to work as correspondent Şerkat Halep Today whose editorial line is anti-ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria).
Syrian journalists in Turkey
Many Syrian dissident journalists have been practicing journalism since the beginning of the Syrian civil war.
Despite that, Turkey is one of the dangerous regions for Syrian journalists.
Three journalists were killed
Two Syrian journalists, İbrahim Abdulkadir and Firaz El Hamadi were killed at the house where they lived together in Urfa on October 30, 2015.
Journalist Naci El Jerf was shot to death in his head by unidentified people in Antep in the middle of the stree on December 27. Jerf was known with his documentaries about the ISIS.
ISIS had claimed responsibility for all the three attacks.
Journalists had met Erdoğan
Syrian journalists had met President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on January 22. Problems of Syrian journalists in Turkey were tackled in the meeting. (EA/TK)
