Reaction by Turkish Journalists in Europe against Arrest of Dündar, Gül

Association of Turkish Journalists in Europe (ATGB) has reacted against arrest of Cumhuriyet dail Chief Editor Can Dündar and Ankara Representative Erdem Gül.

“We know that President [Recep Tayyip] Erdoğan personally is behind this gross violation against people’s freedom of communication and right to receive information. Erdoğan had threatened Dündar on a lived broadcast on TV saying, ‘He can’t get away with it that easily! He will heavily pay for it’. We nervously follow Erdoğan acting not only as a complainant but also as a prosecutor, or even judge and many of the journalists’ not opposing it.

“ATGB stands by Cumhuriyet daily, our colleagues Can Dündar and Erdem Gül.
