Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, condemned Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) ban during election period in a press statement made yesterday.
Reminding many channels like A Haber (News A) were fined during election period, Ahmet Davutoğlu said he was principally against all bans.
Davutoğu spoke:
"Only if media has broad freedom to inform public opinion during election period, we can make ourselves understood. To ban is not proper according to the freedom of press. I am principally against all bans. Hopefully, we can take due precautions with the help of new legal regulations to overcome this. I find improper for specific channels to be targeted. It is against the principals. I actually condemn it.
“I plan to meet RTÜK as soon as possible. We should jointly assess restrictive and limiting rulings if any. However, it is not proper to oppress media by heavy punishments.” (EA/BD)
