Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Muş MP Mensur Işık reportedly inflicted violence on Ebru Işık, a teacher and his wife. According to the allegations, having battered Ebru Işık in their house in Ankara, Mensur Işık also prevented the woman from going to hospital by taking away her phone.
The MP reportedly took Ebru Işık to a private hospital 20 kilometers away from their house. As Ebru Işık asked for help from the doctors, they reported the incident to the police. A restraining order was issued against the MP.
Amid these allegations, the Women's Assembly of the party has released a statement about this incident of male violence.
"We will stand up against it no matter from whom or where violence comes. We would like to once again declare it to the public, especially to women, that we will insistently struggle against it," the statement has read.
'We are probing the allegations'
"In morning hours today, it has been reported in the news that HDP MP Mensur Işık inflicted violence on his spouse Ebru Işık," the Women's Assembly has said, announcing that "it has started the necessary probe into the incident by giving primacy to the woman's statement."
"Struggling against all types of violence against women is the reason why we exist and struggle as the HDP Women's Assembly," the statement has said and concluded that "the incident is now being probed and the necessary mechanisms will be operated" about it. (EMK/SD)
