International Frankfurt Book Fair will open with a ceremony with the participation of President of Honored Guest France Emanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The fair in which 7,150 establishments from 106 countries to open their stands will last until October 15 Sunday. It was reported that security measures will be tighter than ever before. It is expected that 280,000 people will visit the fair within five days.
Participation of Turkey and other Turkey
Turkey and Turkish publication world will be represented in the fair with its various aspects. Under the coordinatorship of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Directorate of Libraries and Publications two big stands will open in an area of 300 meters square.
Over 50 publishers and prominent publisher’s organizations are attending the fair.
Award to Ahmet Şık
The “brave journalism” award will be granted to imprisoned journalist Ahmet Şık in Turkey. Besides, solidarity events will be organized for the imprisoned journalists in Turkey. Well known figures such as Daniel Cohn Bendit will join the event called “We want to see Deniz” organized to act in solidarity with Deniz Yücel and other imprisoned journalists in Turkey. (GK/HK/TK)
