Physician didn’t treat LGBTI+ patient

An on-call doctor working in the emergency service of Taksim Training and Research Hospital in Beyoğlu, İstanbul allegedly refused to examine and treat LGBTI+ M.P. patient and insulted and attacked him/her.
As reported by Pınar Gayıp from the Etkin News Agency (ETHA), M.P. went to the Taksim Training and Research Hospital in Beyoğlu at noon hours on August 15 as s/he was having severe joint pains.
Even though s/he explained his/her complaints to the physician of the emergency service, s/he was not examined, was only given a painkiller shot and sent home. When the painkiller wore off, M.P. started having pains again and went to the emergency service of the same hospital.
M.P. was met by another physician there. S/He talked about what happened earlier and said that the other doctor did not care for him/her.
M.P. has explained what happened after that briefly as follows: "The doctor started speaking in an angry tone, waving me to leave and attempting to throw the disinfectant on the table. The security guards were not involved in any way till that moment. The doctor took the disinfectant, said, 'I won't examine you, you faggot' and told the guards to take me out."
Security: There are no doctors to examine you
As recounted further by M.P., since the attacks of the doctor became harsher, the security intervened, asking the doctor, "Professor, what are you doing?" After that, the security guards took M.P. out of the hospital.
M.P. said that s/he would not leave the hospital without being treated and wanted to be examined by another physician. The security guards reportedly responded: "There are no doctors to examine you."
Police threatened to detain M.P.
M.P. went to another hospital after this incident and s/he was treated there. Then, he went to the Taksim Training and Research Hospital again and wanted to see the doctor who attacked him/her. The doctor denied what he had said earlier and a row ensued between the two.
One of the police officers who came to the scene of the incident threatened M.P. with detention while the other officer said that as M.P. did not have any evidence, s/he could not prove anything. (EMK/SD)
