Detained in Turkey's Kurdish-majority eastern province of Kars on October 1, dismissed Co-Mayor of Kars Şevin Alaca has been arrested on the grounds that "the system of co-chairpersonship does not exist in Turkey's laws."
Shortly after Ayhan Bilgen, the other Co-Mayor of Kars from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), was taken into custody and arrested, Alaca was also detained with several others on October 1.
In detention since then, Şevin Alaca, HDP Kars Provincial Co-Chair Cengiz Anlı and four other people were taken to Kars Courthouse for their deposition at the prosecutor's office earlier today (October 8).
Giving their statements at the prosecutor's office, Muazzez Çağrıtekinci has been released while Şevin Alaca, Cengiz Anlı, Mustafa Yardımcıer and Şengül Erkmen were referred to court with a request for their arrest.
The court has ruled that Şevin Alaca, Cengiz Anlı, Mustafa Yardımcıer and Şengül Erkmen shall be arrested. As the reason for their arrest, the court has referred to the system of co-chairpersoneship and sister family campaigns. (RT/SD)
