Arrested in December 2019, Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporters Sadiye Eser and Sadık Topaloğlu stood trial for the first time at the İstanbul 22nd Heavy Penal Court yesterday (March 26).
The court has ruled for the release of both journalists and adjourned the hearing to October 15, 2020.
Detained shortly after they left the MA office in Beyoğlu, İstanbul on November 29, journalists Sadiye Eser and Sadık Topaloğlu were arrested by the İstanbul 3rd Penal Judgeship of Peace on December 3, 2019.
While the journalists were arrested for "being members of a terrorist organization" based on witness statements, their travels abroad and former lawsuits against them were cited as the reason for their arrest.
While Eser was sent to Bakırköy Women's Closed Prison, Topaloğlu was first sent to Metris Prison and referred to Silivri Prison later on.
