11 people have been detained in the provinces of Antep and Konya due to their social media posts. The charge of "propagandizing for the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union)", have been brought against the detained.
CLICK - Investigation into 402 Social Media Accounts
In a statement released by the Ministry of Interior on August 13, it was announced that 402 social media accounts were investigated and legal action was taken against 292 people from August 6 to August 13.
Six people detained in Antep
The Governorship of Antep issued a written statement about the operation which was conducted by five branch offices of the Antep Provincial Security Directorate Anti-Terror Branch yesterday (August 14).
In the statement, it was announced that six people were taken into custody "on the ground that they shared social media posts, which did not only propagandize for a terrorist organization, but could also incite people to enmity and hatred, create public indignation and chaos and lead to provocative incidents."
Five people detained in Konya
Five people have also been taken into custody in the province of Konya for allegedly "propagandizing for a terrorist organization on social media."
The Konya Provincial Security Directorate Anti-Terror Branch forces conducted simultaneous raids on nine addresses. While five people were detained in the operations, the police have been continuing their operations to detain the ones who could not be found in their addresses.
"Exchange rate" investigation into social media
General Directorate of Security launched an investigation against 346 social media accounts sharing posts "which aim to create a negative perception by manipulating the exchange rate of dollar."
The İstanbul and Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices also launched an investigation against "the social media accounts that share news, printed and visual media which serve to the economic attacks as well as person or persons who threaten the economic security."
The Ministry announced on February 26, 2018 that 845 people who criticized the Afrin operation on social media and participated in critical activities had been taken into custody. (AS/SD)
