Arrested on May 24, rapper Ezhel (28) has released the letter he penned in Maltepe Prison on his social media account.
Ezhel had gone to the police station upon a phone call from the station and he was arrested on charge of “promoting and facilitating drug use”.
In his letter, Ezhel addressing his friends, family and fans, expressed that his health condition is fine and he saw support by his fans in prison as well.
Calling on the person who filed the complaint against him to the Prime Ministerial Communication Center (BİMER), Ezhel said, “What did I do to you. I don’t mind myself but I’m leaving you to face with your conscience for making a mother cry”.
“Down with censorship, long live full independent rap!”, Ezhel concluded his letter.
“FreeEzhel” calls
People have written “#FreeEzhel” on the walls in district of Kadıköy, İstanbul following the arrest of Ezhel.
A large number of artists, music writers and journalists including Moğollar, Serken Altuniğne, Yasemin Mori, Harun Tekin, Murat Meriç, Ceza, Derya Bengi, Amberin Zaman, Işıl Cinmen asked for the release of Ezhel on Twitter.
Ezhel is facing from 5 to 10 years in prison as per the charge of “promoting drug”. (TP/TK)
