Artist Barış Atay was detained by police this morning (May 16).
His lawyer Efkan Bolaç stated that Atay has been taken to Security Directorate, police didn’t search his home and his phone or electronic devices weren’t seized.
According to the information Bolaç gave, the police told Atay that “there is a detention warrant issued for him due to a tweet he posted”.
Atay or his lawyer weren’t informed of the details of the investigation.
Union of Actors and Actresses said, “We are monitoring the situation of our detained member Barış Atay and await the justified decision”.
Ahmet Hakan wrote “teach him his lesson”
Hürriyet columnist Ahmet Hakan wrote about Atay in his column yesterday.
Calling on to presidential candidates Muharrem İnce and Meral Akşener to “teach this man his lesson”, Hakan wrote:
“This man represents a mindset! He [represents] anything that we wish to end…He’s taken all these on his back and appeared before us! This man…is a representative of all chasing revenge, seeking fight, chaos and unrest!”
Atay responded to Hakan: “You will be tried too”
The article was released yesterday, Atay was detained today.
In his message that he conveyed via his lawyer Efkan Bolaç, Atay said, “Ahmet Hakan’s instruction has arrived at its destination”.
Atay responded to Hakan’s article with this article:
“Ahmet Hakan…everyone whom this government used as hitman against the people under any circumstances will apologize in shame, just like Yusuf Yerkel, yet he will still be tried! You are one of them”. (AS/TK)
