Trial concerning killing of Agos Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink will resume at İstanbul 14th Heavy Penal Court in Çağlayan Courthouse in İstanbul today (March 12).
From last hearing to date
* In the wake of the hearing held on February 2, two Trabzon Gendarmerie Officials (Okan Şimşek and Veysel Şahin) were released on February 13. With this development, 85 people nine of whom are in custody are tried.
* On February 24, an indictment was prepared for one of prosecutors of Dink investigation Muammer Akkaş on charges of “fabricating document” and “managing an illegal organization”. Akkaş faces up to 58 years in prison.
* 14th Heavy Penal Court returned the filed about Akkaş, who is known with December 17-25 corruption investigation, on the ground of “lack of competence”.
Demand for justice by Hrant’s Friends continues
Coming togetjer in front of the courthouse prior to the 20th hearing, Hrant’s Friends chanted slogans “For Hrant for justice” and “This case won’t be over unless we say so”. (EA/TK)
