The Ministry of Interior has expressed that 169 people have been prosecuted from between February 26 and March 5 (today) due to their social media posts.
Among the reasons for the prosecutions “hate speech” was listed as well in the statement made on ministry’s official website.
690 social media accounts were examined
“690 social media accounts who propagandize for a terrorist organization, promote these organizations, openly express their affiliation with these organizations, incite people to enmity, hate and hostility, insult public officials, make an attempt on state’s indivisible integrity and people’s life safety, and commit hate speech, and that legal actions were taken against 169 people”.
845 detentions, 45 arrests over “Afrin posts”
In its statement dated February 26, the ministry declared that 845 people who criticized the Afrin operation on social media and attend critical demonstrations were detained.

The announcement released on ministry’s official website is:
“Since January 20, 2018 when Operation Olive Branch was launched, 85 protests and 648 propaganda activities were realized against the operation. 120 provocateurs were detected and 845 suspects were detained”.
At least 45 people have been taken into custody since January 20 when the offensive began. (AS/TK)
