Imprisoned gendarmeries Bekir Yokuş, Ecevit Emir, Emre Cingöz, Hacı Şerif Şimşek and Şeref Ateş, who were serving at İstanbul Gendarmerie Intelligence Bureau at the time of the killing of Agos Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink, have been released.
Cingöz was identified
Among the released suspects Cingöz was identified in the images of the homicide day, according to the report that was sent to the court.
Then-Trabzon Security Directorate Intelligence Bureau Director Ramazan Akyürek’s lawyer İrem Danacıoğlu said, “We are of the opinion that the causes that constitute the reasons of arrest do not exist anymore”. The chief judge said, “They will not disappear just because you believe so”. Danacıoğlu demanded released of her client.
Prosecutor Mehmet Yeşilkaya demanded release of Bekir Yokuş, Ecevit Emir, Emre Cingöz, Hacin Şerif Şimşek and Şeref Ateş. The court ruled release of the İstanbul gendarmerie officials.
The trial will resume on January 29-30 and February 1-2.
Hrant Dink was assassinated by Ogün Samast in İstanbul on January 19, 2007. (EA/TK)
