Diyarbakır Bar Association 45th Ordinary General Session has been organized, Bar Deputy Chair Ahmet Özmen has been elected as president.
The association organized a general session for the first time after murdering of Tahir Elçi, the former Diyarbakır Bar Association Chair, on November 28, 2015, and elected president and administrative board.
Ahead of the election, Özmen had told bianet:
“I would like to let everyone know that future president and board members, whoever elected, will sustain both Tahir Elçi’s legacy and Diyarbakır Bar Association’s mission from past to present, and they will take place in the struggle for human rights, justice and democracy. The future chair and board members will have heavy responsibilities such as standing against rights violations and reporting of them. However, no one should doubt that these activities will be carried out”. (AS/TK)
