Two professors at İstanbul University who got detained within scope of the operations launched into Gülen Community following the coup attempt have been arrested.
According to Habertürk’s article, Prof. Dr. Vedat Demir at Faculty of Communication and Prof. Dr. Ferah Armutçu at Faculty of Medicine have been arrested on charge of “being member of FETÖ/PDY (Fethhulahist Terror Organization/Parallel State Structure)” by İstanbul 10th Criminal Judicatory of Peace on Duty.
The 25 academics detained have been released by being imposed ban on leaving the country.
31 academics were taken into custody within the operation launched into İstanbul University academic members on June 25.
At least 234 people at 12 universities have been detained, 10 others arrested so far.
Vedat Demir in his tweet on July 18 had posted, “I quit writing in Yarına Bakış due to my doubts that it was the community behind the coup”. (BK/TK)
