In the petition signed by Bar Vice President Ahmet Özmen on behalf of Diyarbakır Bar Association, it has been demanded to investigate and put the suspected public officials in charge on trial on charges of “disrespect towards the dead, inciting people to hatred, grudge and hostility, defamation and insulting one’s memories”.
The two woman had been killed on February 10 and 11, and the pictures of their naked dead bodies had been published on social media.
“Those who are liable are public officers”
In the petition why it is believed that the ones taking and releasing the pictures are believed to be state officers has been explained as follows:
“Since curfew has been imposed on Cizre as of December 14, 2015, there is no chance that civilian or someone else can be in scene and take picture”.
“Provoking and insulting Kurds”
Nature of the crime has been explained in the petition as follows:
“Article 130/2 of Turkish Penal Code (TCK) stipulates penalizing those who act in libelous way towards body’s corpse or bones, again Article 216 of the TCK stipulates jail term for those inciting people to grudge and hatred.
“There is no doubt that the pictures that can be accessed on electronic media have been taken with the motivation of committing crime, and provocation and insult over defaming deceased and identity of the deceased against Kurdish citizens who constitute a part of the society has been intended.
“It is clearly understood that the suspects have tried to provoke society by giving people in Cizre and Kurds a message through inhuman and defaming treatment”. (AS/DG)
