The crisis occurred following Turkey’s shooting down Russian warplane has affected laborers working at the leather factory.
Nine workers have been discharged from Aka Deri factory (Aka Leather factory) operating in Leather Organized Industrial Site in Tuzla district of İstanbul showing crisis between Russia and Turkey as reason in December of 2015.
The workers who are members of Union of Leather Spinning and Textile Workers (DERİTEKS) have been resisting in front of the factory as of December 9.
Majority of furs and leathers produced at Aka Deri are being sent to Ukraine and Russia. DERİTEKS Tuzla Branch President, Binali Tay says that alongside the Turkey-Russia crisis, tension between Russia and Ukraine as well affects the sector.
Tay said the employer went for “shrink” by showing the crisis as the reason and that discharged nine laborers. The workers other than the two workers who have qualified for a pension and accept to quit, continue their waiting at the resistance tent.
While the production has come to a halt in the factory which operates by 29 workers, 15 workers continue working at the factory.(ÖÇ/NV/TK)
